“Let him who would move the world first move himself.”
What is The Process of Self Development
Often times a person gets into self development because something in his or her life is unbalanced. Maybe you have trouble controlling your emotions and you push people away by lashing out at them. Maybe your in your head a lot and you always feel self conscious. Whatever the reason all the articles on this site will help you in whatever it is you are trying to do. In this article, I would like to introduce you to a little more structure and go through the process everybody inevitably goes through when they find self development.
Step 1: Awakening
So many of us walk through life in only one direction. I talk a lot about how society affects so many aspects of our lives. Every thought, emotion and action is influenced by society. By society I mean all of the external forces around you including friends, family and even your environment.
These forces can affect you either negatively or positively. The first stage of self development is waking up. This step is probably the hardest. Most people don’t make this first step. Instead people tend to blame other things outside of their control instead of taking responsibility for their own life.
As a result they keep living this unconscious life that they know will make them unhappy but they feel powerless to change it. These people see themselves as a victim in their own life and will lash out at anyone who challenges this reality.
When somebody has this victim mentality it can be very hard to help these people. This is because they choose to live in this reality where they have no control and this causes a lot of frustration in their life. The best way to help somebody with this mentality is to improve yourself and hopefully they can see that it is possible to change their life as well.
Step 2: Finding Your Path
At this point, you have made the difficult decision to take full responsibility for your life. You have told yourself that where you are going in life now is not where you want to go. You realize you have to change. At this point, you begin to seek a solution.
This second step is also extremely hard. It requires you to leave your comfort zone on a consistent basis. The only thing your brain cares about is survival and reproduction. So when you try something new your brain will inevitably try to reject it. This causes an emotion called fear.
The best thing to realize when you get this emotion is that you are getting a glimpse of this second step. Fear is just an emotion produced by the brain to keep you safe from the unknown. Realize that fear is a good thing and if you overcome it you are moving closer towards your authentic self.
After taking a lot of action, often times at this stage you realize how much your emotions are holding you back. Maybe you think “Wow I have to change, but I just can’t do it!”. You realize you have all these negative emotions in your head that’s holding you back.
Some people are eventually able to overcome their own psyche while others may need some inspiration and techniques on how to overcome their own psyche. The most important thing about this step is that you can’t give up.
You have already made the decision to change your life which most people never do. The next thing you have to do is overcome your own psyche. This is something that’s possible for everyone.
Step 3: Realizing Change
This is the ultimate goal. Everybody stays in step 2 for a very long time. They first awaken and realize they have to change. Then they begin to take action towards that change hoping that it will make a difference. This step is ultimately your reward for pushing through your comfort zone.
There will soon be a day when you reflect back on that day when you realized that you needed to change your life. That you actually changed your life. This is so huge. This is why its so important to remain positive and reflect back on your life positively so you can actually reap the rewards of your hard work.
Most people that get to step 2 quit because they begin to take action but they don’t think their getting results. We all have to move through step 2 kind of blind folded and hoping that taking action will produce a result.
The important thing to realize here is that the human mind is an amazing thing and can adapt to any situation. If you keep moving out of your comfort zone your brain will have no choice but to change. Once you realize you can change you have a huge mindset shift. You begin to realize you really do have the power to change your life and create whatever life you want to create.
This mindset shift only makes you want to have more. You begin to become addicted to this feeling of growing yourself because it makes you feel complete. You begin to wonder how much money you can make, how many relationships you can grow or how big of an impact can you have in this world if you kept growing yourself. In this stage you have reached higher consciousness thinking.
Soon stimulus such as video games and television that used to keep you so occupied is much less enjoyable. Sure its fun for a little while but at the end of it all you feel like you just wasted time. You begin to enjoy leaving your comfort zone and beating fear. You start to seek other areas of your life you can improve on. Ultimately you start to work towards becoming a well rounded person. All from that one decision of deciding to wake up and take responsibility for your life.
The ultimate goal of self development and this website is to begin to move you from an unconscious being to a being of higher consciousness who creates the things he or she wants in his or her life. We can all become our ultimate authentic self if we work on it. I hope you found this article useful to you.
