“Half an hour’s meditation each day is essential, except when you are busy. Then a full hour is needed.”
-Saint Francis De Sales
The Scientific Benefits Of Meditation
Yes, that’s correct this strange sitting technique is backed by science. The scientific benefits of meditation is huge. Have you ever heard of Wim Hof? Hes my favorite superhero – also known as “The Iceman”. He has baffled scientists on how he can perform feats like climbing Mt. Everast in his shorts, running a marathon in his shorts on the Arctic circle and emerging himself in an ice bath for over an hour! He has broken over 20 world records and has performed such superhuman feats scientists can’t even explain it. He describes this ability by being able to “turn his own thermostat up” using his mind. If you have ever seen Hof in an ice bath you can see that he isn’t jumping up and down or rubbing his hands to create friction. He’s actually being very still. Its almost as if he meditating or something. Other than regulating your body temperature – which truthfully many won’t be able to achieve, meditation has many other benefits backed by science.
Allows You To Better Control Your Emotions
Are you the type of person who finds himself or herself in an uncontrollable rage? Or maybe you can’t put the bottle down. Meditation helps with all of this! The purpose of meditation is to quiet the voices in your head and to live in the present moment. Most people allow their emotions to run their lives and they are victims of their emotions – going wherever their emotions take them. Meditating will allow you to control those emotions by taking control of your inner dialogue. Instead of being a victim of your own mind you will be able to seize control of yourself and be the driver of your own life.
It Helps You De-Stress!
Worried about your next stand up comedy show? Or perhaps your next circus performance? Meditate your troubles away! Since meditation allows you to stay in the present moment it helps you stop thinking about what’s going to happen or even what did happen and focus on what is happening. You are always happy in the present moment because the only thing that ever exists is the present. The past and future are just made up problems formed by the mind. We are constantly burdened and stressed throughout our daily lives because of all of our bills and responsibilities we need to do. Meditating allows us to take a step back from life and lifts all of our burdens off our shoulders and replaces it with calm sweet serenity.
It Makes You More Aware
A lot of people are simply unaware of what their mind is doing to them and what kind of inner dialogue their brain is stirring up. Meditating allows you to become closer to your mind and consequently learn a lot more about yourself. You’ll see things in a different perspective. You may even be surprised at what your inner dialogue stirs up now that your focusing on it. Most importantly you become aware that all the thoughts in your head are clearly not you. When you successfully stop the chatter in your mind you find yourself and not what you thought was you amongst the infinite chatter your brain creates.
Here a just a small handful of other tangible benefits meditation offers:

I could go on, there are SO many benefits to meditation that you should just do it and see for yourself. I know that its hard for you to believe that meditation really does do all of this. You really have to do it to really believe that meditation can have all of these benefits. Once you start doing it you will begin to realize how meditation is slowly changing your perspective on life and your personality in general!
