I saw a subliminal advertising executive, but only for a second.
Research on Subliminal Messaging
With the recent advent of subliminal messaging software such as Subliminal Messaging 2 it is questioned whether software, which flashes subliminal messages on your computer screen actually helps. Subliminal messaging has been studied for decades and the first study was done all the way back in 1957 by James Vicary.
The First Study
During the screenings of a film called Picnic Vicary flashed advertisements like “Drink Coca-Cola” and “Hungry? Eat Popcorn!” faster than the consciousness can see. It was claimed that these messages increased Coca-Cola sales by 18.1% and popcorn sales by 57.8%. Much to Vicary’s amazement, his research was met with backlash. The study caused a panic which resulted in a ban on subliminal advertising from radio and television in the UK.
Do Subliminal Messaging Actually Reach the Subconscious?
Vicary’s study scared a lot of people. Could we be tricked into buying products without even knowing? This was like a form of mind control which kept everyone on their toes.
A study was conducted to show whether or not audio subliminal messaging actually reaches the subconscious. To show this, subliminal audio was played which was so faint participants claimed that they could not hear any sound whatsoever. These same participants were then asked to guess which letter or digit was played in the audio. Incredibly, these participants got it correctly many more times than if they were just chance guessing. Similar experiments have been done hundreds of time with the same result. This concludes that audio subliminal messaging does indeed reach the subconscious mind.
Subliminal Messaging on Emotion
In 2009 a study was conducted in order to show whether or not people are able to process emotional information from subliminal images. The results were interesting. During the study 50 participants were shown a series of words on a screen. These words appeared for only a fraction of a second – So fast that it could not be picked up by the conscious brain.
These words were either positive, neutral or negative. Participants were asked to rank each word as neutral, positive or negative and say how confident they were of their decision. Despite the fact that participants could not see the words they still answered more accurately than chance guessing. Researchers found that participants answered the most accurately when responding to negative words. This shows that people are much more vulnerable to negative subliminal messages than positive ones. It also shows that like audio messaging, visual messaging also seems to affect the subconscious.
Subliminal Messaging on Behavior
In 1980 Dr, Loyd Silverman published a study where he used subliminal messages to get a bunch of smokers who were going through behavior modification therapy to quit smoking. A subliminal message was incorporated into the treatment of half of the smokers. One month after treatment ended 66% of the group exposed to the subliminal messages quit smoking while only 13% of the patients who weren’t exposed to the messages quit. This suggests that subliminal messaging can be used to aid in kicking bad habits such as drugs, alcohol and smoking. It may also be used to overcome bad habits, anxieties, as well as other behaviors.
So what does this all mean for subliminal messaging? I think this is an area that has been studied extensively. In fact, it’s been studied almost as much as meditation. There were a lot more studies than the ones I have listed. The studies seem to provide significant evidence that these subliminal messages do indeed affect your subconscious mind. But does subliminal software work?
Subliminal Software claims it can rewrite old beliefs through subliminal messages. It seems like it does have enough studies and research to prove that it can. Specifically the research on behavior I find most interesting. Although, I would like to see more research on the effects of subliminal messaging on behavior; if subliminal messaging can get a group of individuals to quit smoking I only wonder what else it can do.
My conclusion is I can’t guarantee if subliminal software works or not, I don’t think anyone can claim that it definitely works. You can become more confident for any number of reasons. It can even be a placebo effect where you buy this software and you think it helps you so it does. Placebo or not if it makes your more confident (or whatever you want) it makes you more confident. So I think it’s worth a buy.
The software is pretty cheap; you can find ones below $50 so if it can help you become a better person, I say why not invest that money into yourself? The subliminal software does have good reviews as well with people claiming it has helped them so maybe there is something here. If you want, you can also read my review on Subliminal Power 2. At the end of the day I think it comes down to whether you, personally believe subliminal messaging in itself works. The best thing I can do for you is give you\the studies which will allow you to come up with a conclusion yourself.
Have a great day!
Still not convinced? This is one story about how subliminal messages helped this person. If you are interested you can check out his youtube video below.
