If we could get your subconscious mind to agree with your conscious mind about being happy, that’s when your positive thoughts work.
How To Use Your Subconscious Mind
A lot of people are amazed by our current technology. We look in awe when we can shoot a missile that automatically locks onto a target. We are amazed by how much our computers can remember. But what’s more amazing is you. I think it’s amazing how your brain can make the correct calculations to cause your arm to move in the exact correct angle and direction in order to intercept a ball.
We don’t even think about it but we take advantage of our subconscious mind. If we had to consciously flex every muscle, figure out which ones to flex and at what degree as well as what angle to move our arm – our reaction time would be unimaginably slow. By outsourcing tedious tasks such as this to the unconscious our consciousness can focus more on the bigger picture such as our goals, decisions and long-term success and happiness.
As a result, baseball players can react to a fastball in as fast as 0.35 seconds, we can recall knowledge seemingly out of nowhere from years ago, and we can even recall events despite having diseases such as amnesia! If we can harness the power of the subconscious mind and learn how to control what goes into it we will no doubt be truly powerful.
Incantations are when you tell yourself out loud a series of positive affirmations. It is often a behavior you want to instill on yourself and you speak as if you already have it. The most important thing about this is that you have to believe it. Some example incantations are:
“I enjoy the challenges of ___(Life, work, etc)”
“I deserve to be happy!”
“I am confident!”
You can even get really into it like this:
“I am going to walk in there with my suit on and blow everybody out of the water! They will love me, in fact, they will hire me on the spot! There is no way I can’t fail!” (Repeated on your way to an interview)
Whatever the incantation is you have to believe it, it has to be positive and it should pump you up a bit. Also be loud! Scream it! You have to believe it or it won’t work. Also here are some examples of bad incantations:
“I am not shy”
“I am not an idiot”
“I am not ___”
Do you see the trend here? Don’t use the word not or any other negation. Although you’re logically saying you are not something your subconscious has to think of that thing and then negate it. It has to say “I am an idiot” and then “No I’m not”. It’s like trying to not picture a pink elephant.
If you have ever been into self-development for any length of time you have probably heard of goal setting before. Brian Tracy recommends writing your goals down before bed every night. This task is more to teach your subconscious to move towards that goal. There is a psychological phenomenon called Parkinson’s law which states that work expands so as to fill the time available for its completion. This basically means that if you give yourself a reasonable amount of time to complete a task you will complete that task in that time, no sooner, no later. Have you ever crammed for a paper that was supposed to take you a month to write and you wrote it in a day? That’s Parkinson’s law in action.
Writing down goals takes advantage of Parkinson’s law. Your goals should be specific, realistic and most importantly have a date of completion. By applying Parkinson’s law to your entire life you will find that success will be inevitable.
Pay Attention to Your Thoughts
This is extremely important. Most of us don’t think twice about what goes into our minds and what we believe. Our thoughts control our emotions and our actions so it is so important to control the amount of negative thoughts that our minds produce. Incantations and goal setting will help with this but there are also a near infinite number of ways to become a more positive person.
Just as activating your subconscious can be extremely rewarding activating it in the wrong way can also be extremely detrimental. Some people have an extremely negative subconscious and it rubs off on other people, they are less successful and people don’t want to be around them because they feel the energy. If you can keep your mind positive 24/7 there is no way you will not be successful.
If you fully believe in yourself and you have a goal in mind the universe will move out of the way for you. What separates successful people from unsuccessful people is that successful people are just more positive and they are willing to learn from their mistakes. Being positive has nothing to do with the amount of positive things in your life. It has everything to do with how you react to bad events or mistakes you make. Do you become negative when bad things happen, blame others or blame yourself? Or do you instinctively try to find the light in bad things, accept that it happened and learn from them?
If you can pay more attention to your thoughts and make them more positive this is hands down the best way to use your subconscious mind and shift it to a more positive beneficial one.
Have a great day!
