“My mission in life is not merely to survive, but to thrive; and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humor, and some style.”
Discover Your Passion
If you are reading this, you are probably struggling to discover your passion in life. That’s okay. Most people don’t know what their passion is and even worse – most people never find their passion. So realize that this is okay and you are already taking a big step that most people never even take. That step is looking for your passion. The fact that you are reading this article tells me that you at least know that discovering your passion is extremely important for the happiness in your life. Also, realize that discovering your passion takes time. It takes a lot of time and effort but in the end it’s always worth finding.
Most people don’t even look for their passion. Some people discover their passion very early in life and as a result, they have this unstoppable drive and willpower that nobody can match. These people are often the most dominant in their field. Maybe these people don’t have to look for their passion – but for the vast majority of people. Your passion doesn’t just land on your lap. You have to go find it and again, it’s always worth it to put in the effort to discover your passion.
What is the Definition of Passion
Your passion is something you partially discover and create. The biggest problem is you don’t know who you are. If you did you would know what your passion is. The reason why you cannot discover your passion is because you have been conditioned by society to ultimately live a life that’s not your authentic self. So how do you discover your passion? You have to find yourself first. The first step is to start moving towards this authentic self that I often talk about here.
The self you are now, lacks the experience to have a passion. You don’t even know what you could even be passionate about. In my post about The True Self vs. The Authentic Self I talk about a script which is handed to us since the day we are born. This script is the main reason you cannot discover your passion. It’s because you’re living a life that’s ultimately been decided for you. You have tunnel vision and can only see what’s in front of you and you’ve essentially locked yourself away from the rest of the world. You are too focused on what’s ahead of you that you don’t see what else is out there.
The First Step
The first step to take is figuring out where you are unhappy in your life. What in your life are you doing that you either hate or are just unpassionate about? Let’s use an example that you currently don’t like your job.
Let’s say you are a Lawyer. You went to school for years just to become a Lawyer and you’re working at a firm that you just don’t like. Before you quit you first must ask yourself an important question:
“What don’t I like about this firm/job?”
Is it boring?
Do I hate talking to people?
Is it to analytical for me?
Maybe its the last reason. Maybe you discover you don’t like it because you don’t like spending hours analyzing a case. Maybe you want to work at a bigger firm. Whatever reason you come up with these reasons are valuable. These reasons will give you direction in life.
Its kind of like you’re at a buffet and you’re just trying different food. You pick up fried chicken and you don’t like it because it’s fried. So now you know you don’t like fried food. So you go pick up a fish and eat it. Maybe you like it or maybe you think its too slimy and it’s not for you. Treat life like a buffet. Try different things – figure out what you like and dislike and this will give you parameters on what you are personally passionate about. The important part is that you have to look and try new things. Some people pick up one thing and that’s their passion. For most it could take three tries, maybe five – maybe even ten! However many tries it takes it’s always worth it.
When you discover your passion so many of your problems will just dissolve. Your money problems will dissolve. You will have more energy. You will be more positive. Your relationships will improve. So many areas of your life will become so much better when you discover your passion. So always try new things. Always expand your knowledge and yourself. Most importantly, find out who you really are.
Have a great day!
